Car accident while driving in Korea
Stop, switch the hazards on, call 112. Leaving the scene is a criminal offence in Korea even after a minor collision - here is the order.
Right now
- Stop and check whether anyone is hurt. Driving away makes it a hit and run.
- If anyone is injured, call 119 and 112. Reporting is required for accidents with injuries.
- Put your hazard lights on. On an expressway, set the warning triangle and move behind the guardrail.
- Exchange names, phone numbers, plate numbers and insurers, and photograph the scene from several angles before moving the car.
Then
- If it is a rental, call the rental company straight away. Coverage and excess differ by company.
- File the claim with the insurer. Do not settle in cash at the scene.
- Get a traffic accident certificate from the police station if you need one.
Keep these
- Traffic accident certificate
- Other plate number and insurer
- Scene photos and dashcam
- Rental agreement
- Driving licence
