Pickpocketed in Korea: how to report it
Report theft on 112, then get the report document - your insurer and your embassy will both ask for it. Here is the order, and what to keep.
Right now
- Call your card issuer and freeze your cards. This comes before the police.
- Call 112 if the thief is still there or it just happened. Otherwise go to the nearest police station.
- If Korean is hard, call 1330 first and report with the interpreter on the line.
Then
- Before you leave the station, write down the report number and who is handling it.
- Ask for the report document your insurer will need. Without it a travel insurance claim will not go through.
- For something you left behind rather than had stolen, search the national lost and found at lost112.go.kr.
Keep these
- Report number
- Police report document
- Receipts or photos of the items
- Passport copy
